Themes

We have broken up our summer program into theme weeks to offer girls and parent’s the opportunity to select the weeks that will be the most meaningful for them. Campers are welcome to attend one week, 2 weeks, or all 4 weeks! When you're ready to register, we can put together a package that works best for you and your family.

Summer 2010 Weekly Themes

  • June 21 – 25: Breaking through the Barriers

o   Nothing's going to hold us back! Our focus this week will be on the challenges that young girls experience, such as making friends, balancing home, school, and social life, and staying true to yourself. Together we will learn to break through barriers that might keep us from being the amazing girl we are deep down!

  • July 12 – 16: I am!

o   I am beautiful! I am smart! I am fun! I am a great friend! This week will be focusing on the individual: what does it mean to be me? What is my role in my family? In school? With my friends? We will engage in activities designed to get to know ourselves better and boost our confidence in a big way!

  • July 26 – 30: Animal Love

o   Save the whales! It's no secret that many young girls love animals of all kinds. For our animal love theme each camper will select an endangered species she would like to know more about and her job will be to convice the rest of the campers that the animal is worth saving. Campers will learn about researching a topic indepth and the power of persuasion.

At our camp, girls engage in activities that challenge them to think in new ways and communicate authentically. We focus each week on the experience of being in middle school. We talk about real life problems and focus on how to create solutions to those problems. Some examples of activities that compliment our themes are:

  • Confidence building

o   “Telling” my life story as a play, drawing, book, musical performance, etc. with an emphasis on my successes

o   Work with a team to brainstorm solutions to a "real-world" problem, such as deforestation or lack of funding for schools

  • Improved communication skills

o   Role-playing as a parent, teacher, or guidance counselor to respond to a difficult issue or circumstance

o   Complete a task as a team, such as build a structure out of dry spaghetti and gum drops, without speaking to one another - it's not easy!

Relationship building

o   Work with a partner to help them break through their own personal barriers
